ABOUT US
The Artistè Foundation is a Canadian women's human rights arts organization that advances human rights, equity and social change through the creation, production and presentation of artistic works, storytelling, artist development and community-based arts programming.
We use the arts as a tool for advocacy, education, cultural expression and empowerment, while expanding opportunities for diverse women, refugees, newcomers and underrepresented artists who face barriers to participate in Canada’s arts and cultural landscape, develop their artistic practice, and create and share original works across disciplines, including film, visual arts, theatre, music and multidisciplinary arts.
ROOTED IN STORY, ARTS & LEGACY
Founded by Arta “Artistè” Rexhepi, Artistè Foundation draws inspiration from her family’s artistic and cultural heritage and their arrival in Canada as Kosovo refugees in 1999.
Inspired by her own journey, Arta founded Artistè to break barriers for refugee and newcomer women, creating opportunities to explore the arts, develop their talents and contribute to Canada’s arts landscape. Through artistic creation and storytelling, Artistè uses the arts to advance human rights, amplify women’s voices and inspire social change.
